Sassi House Casa-Grotta di Vico Solitario is an example of a classic sassi house, which were common accommodations in Matera up until as recently as 1952. Located in what was an impoverished area of town, the region's economic difficulties had led entire families and their animals to move into the ancient cave homes, which usually consisted of only one or two rooms. The sassi are listed among UNESCO's World Heritage Sites. Address: Via B. Buozzi Matera MT Italy
