Melfi Castle Frederick II, Basilicata's favourite emperor, set up court briefly in Melfi's castle, raising the city to a status it would never enjoy again. Frederick II was coronated in 1220, and penned the Constitutions of Melfi, which remained the basis for modern, written law in Sicily and southern Italy until 1819. The castle now houses the Museo Nazionale del Melfese, which houses regional artifacts dating back to the 8th century BC. |
